Becoming a freeman of the Furniture makers

So back on 23rd October 2019 I became a young freeman of the Worshipful Company of  Furniture Makers. This was such an amazing achievement for me and was a very special moment in my career. Here is the story of how it came about.

I first heard of the Worshipful Company of furniture makers from Sean Feeney who taught me when I studied at the Peter Sefton Furniture School . At the end of the year at peter Sefton's a open day was organised, to view our final pieces and a small award show was held. On this day I was awarded ‘most visually stimulating design’ award by the furniture makers, for my champagne cabinet ‘Zampania’.

After this I was then invited to the Young Furniture Makers exhibition in London. At this event I got to talk to court members of the furniture makers company and they encouraged me to become a freeman of the company.  No little than 2 weeks later I was heading back down to London to be admitted into the company. Although this was a little nerve wracking standing in front of many members of the court, it was such an unbelievable opportunity and I was extremely honoured.

To this day I am still a member of the company and try to get involved as much as I can (COVID willing) and hopefully when restrictions relax I will be able to attend more events and one day would love to become a liveryman of the company.
